If you or your family members have any of the following fears or concerns, please ask our team about IV sedation:
IV sedation is deeper than other methods ensuring a tranquil experience. Safer and more effective than minimal sedation options, this solution also allows us to tailor the amount of sedation to your individual needs.
We gently insert an I.V. line into a vein in your arm as you feel a wave of relaxation wash over you. This line delivers a steady flow of medication to keep you unconscious throughout treatment. We can adjust the level of sedation during treatment as needed for your desired relaxation. You will wear a pulse oximeter, and we will closely monitor your vital signs while you rest easy. This more advanced form of sedation allows patients to have complete ease and comfort throughout the entire procedure.
Administered by trained professionals, IV sedation has been proven to be safe and effective for dental treatment. Without sedation, the patient’s blood pressure tends to rise. With sedation, studies show that treatment becomes safer by reducing blood pressure during the procedure.
Recovery time from IV sedation is dependent upon the individual patient. You will feel groggy and drowsy for a few hours following treatment. Because sedation causes drowsiness, we always recommend that you arrange transportation to and from your treatment and plan to rest afterwards. After sedation, you should not drive, drink alcohol, or operate machinery.

Nitrous oxide sedation, also known as "laughing gas," is commonly used to make treatment more comfortable for patients that feel anxious in the dental chair. We gently place a mask over your nose and ask you to breathe deeply. This simple sedation method offers the least amount of risk, and any side effects vanish as soon as the mask comes off.
For patients who may be uncomfortable with IV Sedation or Nitrous Oxide, we also offer sedation they can take by mouth in the form of a pill. We will provide a prescription pill to make you feel drowsy and relaxed. Depending on the patient and the sedative, oral sedation may lead to sleep during treatment. After the treatment is completed, it may take the balance of the day for the sedation effects to wear off.
For patients with higher levels of anxiety or those undergoing more complex procedures, we now offer the option of general anesthesia. A licensed specialist comes directly to our office to safely administer the anesthesia, allowing patients to be fully asleep during treatment. This option provides the highest level of comfort and ensures you remain completely relaxed until the procedure is finished.
